In Deep Waters
A Writing Workshop at the Toronto Aquarium (postponed)
Water is a powerful, multi-faceted symbol, often vital to the meaning of dreams, particularly as interpreted by Jungian therapy.
On …….., Inkslingers takes writers to the Toronto Aquarium for a day of immersion in an underwater world.
We are creatures of land and air. In the aquarium, we are introduced to a different world where flying is possible in a medium much thicker than air. In engaging with creatures of sea we are moving back in time in an evolutionary sense, and moving into an alien world. Spend this day slowing down and engaging with what lies beneath the surface – both literally and metaphorically.
Writers will be given prompts and exercises and encouragement throughout the day designed to help engage with the bones of each person’s material and writer’s craft. You will leave this day with your notebook full of observations, experiments and the material for new stories, essays and poems.
At the end of the day, there’s an optional reading at a local restaurant to try out one of the new pieces you’ve created. (The first drink is on us if you need a little liquid encouragement to share your work aloud with your fellow writers.)
However, sharing is always optional of course.
Time: 10:30 to 4:00 (optional reading and beverage follows)
Registration: $99 – includes HST and covers entrance fee to the Aquarium, all workshop activities, and one drink at the Happy Hour Reading afterwards at a local restaurant starting at 4:30 p.m.
