DUE TO THE PANDEMIC WE HAVE RESCHEDULED OUR NEXT ADVENTURE TO 2022.
INFORMATION ABOUT INKSLINGERS IN TUSCANY 2022 WILL BE UPDATED WHEN WE HAVE FINALIZED ARRANGEMENTS WITH OUR TOUR COMPANY.
OUR PLAN IS TO RECREATE THIS MODEL FOR THE TUSCANY TRIP, BUT THERE MAY BE SOME CHANGES TO THE ITINERARY AS DESCRIBED ON THESE PAGES.
Our mission at Inkslingers is to deliver writing workshops and retreats that enrich personal experience, strengthen writing skills, and immerse participants in both the writers and landscape of each explored country. Along the journey we build community and keep each writer safe in their unique creativity.
As part of the fulfillment of that mission, Inkslingers offers international writing, yoga and exploration retreats.
TUSCANY IN 2022
Originally scheduled for the fall of 2020, we are happy to announce that we are finalizing arrangements for Tuscany, Italy from Saturday, October 29th to Sunday, November 6th, 2022.
Experience the magic and inspiration of the birthplace of the Renaissance through a literary lens. Many extraordinary writers have found inspiration in Tuscany over the centuries.
Continuing our enthusiasm for studying literature in the places where it was written, and then exploring it through our own writing, please join us in our unique approach to travel throughout one of Italy’s most beautiful and thought-provoking regions.
Sue Reynolds has led International retreats for over 10 years. Her co-facilitators James Dewar and Kate Marshall Flaherty are also experienced AWA facilitators and accomplished writers. Inkslingers has developed a three-pronged approach to exploring other countries:
- Working closely with experienced, professional tour companies, we organize an itinerary that provides an in-depth exploration of the history and landscape of each country.
- We delve into some of the seminal writers of the countries we visit to both learn about the sensibilities and enjoy the essence of each country’s culture. We also draw upon the works of these authors to inspire participant writing: one author each day. (Don’t worry, there are no tests!)
- Thirdly, we offer an optional guided restorative yoga practice every morning. Beginning the day with a short, body-centered focus, both limbers up the muscles and establishes a mind-body liaison that contributes to focused, grounded writing during the workshop later that morning.
Previous International Retreats
In 2019, Inkslingers took a group of 26 writers and artists to PARIS for 9 days from October 26 to November 3rd, to experience the City of Lights through the lens of literature.

In the summer of 2018, Inkslingers led a fabulous group of 24 writers on a week-long writing/yoga retreat/exploration on the glorious emerald isle of Ireland. Click here to view the Ireland 2018 itinerary.
In summer 2017 the same leadership team as the year before in Ireland led a group from Glasgow to Loch Ness, then on to Dunkeld and Edinburgh, finshing up back in Glasgow.
Along the way we studied Scottish history and a selection of renowned Scottish writers. Click here for the itinerary of our trip to Scotland
Sue Reynolds led the writing portion of this trip, ably assisted by AWA certified instructors James Dewar and Kate Marshall Flaherty. Kate also led the yoga sessions.
Italy 2014 and 2015
Springtime in Umbria! Sue Reynolds and Esana Lotfy once again led participants in a combined yoga and writing practice morning in the mountains near Assisi and Perugia.
Afternoons were spent hiking the Italian countryside, following the pilgrimage route of St. Francis, and visiting the incredibly picturesque towns/cities of Assisi, Gubbio and Perugia.
Costa Rica (annually) 2011 – 2016
Each February at a small resort near Dominical, Costa Rica, Sue Reynolds facilitated the writing workshop portion and Esana Lotfy led the yoga practice .
Mornings started with yoga, then breakfast and then a deep dive for 2 and a half hours into writing.
Afternoons were free to wander on the glorious beaches, take surfing lessons, shop in Dominical, or rest and do more writing.
