A Novel Approach to Fiction & Memoir 2nd Draft

A NOVEL APPROACH to FICTION or MEMOIR SECOND DRAFT is designed to help you prepare your manuscript (and yourself) for the challenges of the publication process.
 
SECOND DRAFT IS DIVIDED INTO 3 STEPS.
You are under no obligation to sign up for all three steps. Many writers only select the option that suits their needs at that moment. Some return later to focus on next steps when their schedules permit.
Because each step provides specific benefits, they are priced separately.
 

STEP 1: OBTAIN A SUBSTANTIVE EDIT:
We read your manuscript carefully and prepare a SUBSTANTIVE EDIT describing what is working well and what could be even better.
 
We offer two types of Substantive Edits:

VERSION ONE: A METICULOUS REPORT: ($1,260 + hst)
A detailed report covers the critically important aspects of successful story-telling as outlined on our Substantive Edit page. This comprehensive approach is designed to educate new and emerging writers in the essential building blocks of novels or memoirs. We are available to meet in person if you live within a reasonable driving distance. Otherwise, our findings, including rewrite recommendations, are emailed in advance, and discussed with you in detail in a supportive, informative 90 minute online zoom or telephone chat format. VERSION TWO: A ONE PAGE ATTENTIVE SUMMARY ($595 + hst)
This version is designed for authors who are well versed in the writer’s craft and who would like a beta read of a manuscript before submitting it to agents and publishers.
Instead of the detailed report, we prepare a one page Summary that celebrates why your book will attract publishers, what might hold it back, and our recommendations, if needed. The report is emailed to you and discussed in a one hour overview online zoom or telephone chat format. (your choice)

STEP 2: PLAN YOUR REWRITE & FINISH IT.

Much like A Novel Approach, you and your Substantive Editor will meet on an online biweekly schedule until you have completed your rewrite. This process is designed to meet your unique needs and is available in 10 hour blocks ($700 + hst per block) that includes editing feedback (usually in groups of chapters) and online discussions. Any unused hours are refunded. The schedule is quite flexible.

STEP 3: Learn how to NAVIGATE the PUBLISHING MARKETPLACE with CONFIDENCE
This intensive 8 week workshop is led by James Dewar. The 2024 dates have not yet been scheduled.
