Traction: A Weekly Writing Accountability Series

Where the rubber meets the road, 4 weeks at a time.

Regular steps. Real pages. Sustained traction.

Stay connected to your project through compassionate accountability. Produce regular, modest work. Get written feedback. Keep moving forward.

Traction is a weekly writing series for people who may struggle to stay engaged with a bigger project.  The work gets stalled or abandoned for long periods at a time.  These writers are working on an ongoing project—memoir, novel, a poetry collection, essays, or hybrid work—who want steady, compassionate accountability and a reason to stay engaged.

Each session offers structure, writing time, and supportive follow-through so your project stays active in your life rather than drifting to the margins.

Participants are invited to submit up to 1,000 words each week and receive light, strengths-based feedback. If writing stalls, we’ll gently check in to help you reconnect with the work.

The emphasis is simple: modest, consistent progress over time.

What to Expect

You sign up for 4 weeks at a time and renew month by month as appropriate.  You can expect:

  • Brief weekly check-ins and intention-setting
  • Dedicated writing time
  • Light, strengths-based feedback in workshop
  • A small supportive circle of writers working steadily alongside you
  • The option to submit up to 1,000 words for feedback from your project each week (for poets, up to 150 lines of poetry)

If a week goes by without a submission, we’ll reach out gently—not to pressure you, but to support your return and help you notice what might be getting in the way.

What You Commit To

This is a gentle but real accountability space.

By joining, you’re agreeing to:

  • Stay engaged with an active writing project—to touch the project every week
  • Submit up to 1,000 words most weeks (when possible)
  • Show up as consistently as you can
  • Communicate if you need to pause or step back
  • Help maintain a respectful, encouraging environment

You don’t need to be prolific or “on track.”
You only need a willingness to keep returning.

What “Light Feedback” Means

Feedback is designed to support momentum, not critique.

You can expect:

  • Strengths-based responses
  • Reflection on what feels vivid, alive, or compelling
  • Gentle noticing of themes or patterns
  • Occasional questions that help you continue writing

This is not:

  • Line editing
  • Workshop-style critique
  • Grammar correction
  • Pressure to revise

The goal is simple: help you stay connected and keep producing new work.

Why This Works

Writers rarely stop writing because they’ve lost interest — they stop because the work becomes isolated, overwhelming, or easy to postpone.

Traction provides:

  • structure
  • continuity
  • accountability
  • a cohort community who are connected to your project

Over time, participants build a sustainable writing rhythm and a growing body of pages.

FAQ

Do I have to share my writing aloud?
No. Submitting writing for feedback is part of the structure, but reading aloud is always optional.

What if I miss a week?
That happens. We’ll check in gently to see what’s getting in the way and help you re-enter without shame or pressure.

What if I don’t have anything to submit?
You’re still welcome to attend. Showing up matters. The goal is reconnection, not perfection.

Is this a critique group?
No. This is an accountability and momentum space. Feedback is strengths-based and forward-moving.

What kinds of writing projects are welcome?
Memoir, fiction, poetry, essays, hybrid work—anything sustained and meaningful to you.

How much writing do I need to produce each week?
Up to 1,000 words is the invitation, not a requirement. Even small steps count.

I’m stuck in my project. Is this still for me?
Especially. The structure and gentle accountability are designed to help writers move through resistance and return to the page.

What if I fall behind?
There is no “behind.” Only returning.

Is this suitable for new writers?
Yes—as long as you’re working on something ongoing and want support staying engaged.

What if I need to pause my participation?
Life happens. Just let us know.
