Writing Alone and with Others: An AWA Method-based Retreat
Our 2025 retreats at Jericho were so marvelous, we’re coming back next year!
In May and September of 2026, we’ll be returning to Jericho House in the Welland/Niagara region of southwestern Ontario. (Click HERE for a powerpoint slideshow of Jericho House).
In these AWA Method Retreats, participants will have lots of time to do self-guided work on the projects they bring. AND there will also be three OPTIONAL group sessions offered each day.
In the late morning we have generative writing sessions in the AWA method, including the immediate strengths-based feedback that is so nourishing and affirming to the first drafts of our work.
In the late afternoon, we have communal times of powerful production using the Pomodoro method.
And in the evenings there is an opportunity to read a piece of your work to the group and get more specific feedback. (Participants will have an opportunity to sign up to read once during these evening feedback sessions over the week.)
Additionally, during the week you may request a private conference with Sue or James to discuss your work, your project, or whatever else you have questions about.
In these retreats, Inkslingers strives to find the ideal balance to nurture the body, the mind and the writing. All group activities are optional, with lots of time for reading, walking, napping, and conversation.
The beginning of May is a little early and the end of September is a little late for swimming, but Lake Erie is close for the polar bears in the crowd! (In 2023 in October a number of us were swimming in the warm post-summer waters on the Erie shore about a 10 minute walk south of the retreat centre.)
At Jericho House, each participant gets a comfortable single room with a private bathroom and a desk. All meals are provided. (All dietary restrictions must be registered at least two weeks before the retreat).

2026 Registration
We don’t yet have finalized prices from Jericho House for 2026 — each year they evaluate the cost of food and finalize their pricing for the year in January. We anticipate a small increase, given the rising cost of living, but we also anticipate the costs will be no more than 10% over last year, and likely less than that. (Last years prices were $995 plus 13% HST for the 5 day retreat and $1495 plus 13% HST for the 7 day retreat. This was the Early Bird pricing WITH the AWA/PJ discount).
To reserve your spot please register for your chosen retreat below. The $250 deposit is fully refundable until after we’ve posted our finalized pricing for the retreat. At that point you will be asked to confirm your registration.
