Managing Your Own Website
A shelter-in-place opportunity.
When our lives are busy, getting to “our own stuff” is often the last thing on our list. Planning, development, marketing, and delivery. A large part of that is often creating and refining our own websites.
Maybe you have a website that has been languishing for years, in need of upgrades you never get to. Maybe you’ve been promising yourself that you’ll finally get your own site.
What better time than this time of imposed staying at home to devote some focus to planning and implementing your website? One day this self-isolation will be over. Wouldn’t it feel great to be ready to launch that venture you’ve been wanting to with a website that’s ready to present your offerings to the world?
You’ll learn how to get into the back of your site, build pages and posts, create contact forms, build an email list and reach the people you want to reach so that you’re not dependent on anyone else to update the information on your site. We’ll also review the basics – why you want to have a site in the first place and what needs to be on it. We’ll develop copy together.
Whether you’re a writer/author, a teacher/workshop facilitator or a coach/small business owner, this course will give you the skills to connect to those people who want to find you.
Each week we’ll work together for an hour and a half in a zoom call. You’ll get a document each week that will walk you through what we explore in class, so that you can follow it again at home on your own while you build confidence. You’ll have access to a private website where you can post the website copy you develop to promote yourself and your services or products — you’ll give and get feedback in small work groups.
And you also get one hour of one on one online tutoring from Sue for whatever you’re unsure about.
What you will need for this course:
- A domain name
- A hosted website that uses WordPress software and the Divi theme
- (if you need help with these, Sue can help you or advise you.)
We’ll be using WordPress – it’s a website-building software that is responsible for 25% of all the websites in the world. The Divi theme is a very powerful theme for building pages that will show up beautifully on desktops or mobile devices.
Date and Time: We’ll be starting the first of our 6 online classes the week of April 27th. There are two times available: Tuesday afternoons from 2:00 to 3:30 and Wednesday afternoons from 2:00 to 3:30.
When you sign up you’ll be sent some preparation to think about in the week leading up to the start dates.
Registration Fee: Cost for this course is $240 plus HST.
