Overview of Scotland Trip – July 2017
From July 15 to 23, 2017, Inkslingers will be offering a writing/yoga/discovery retreat in stunning, storied Scotland!
Scotland is the home and inspiration of a number of the great influences of Western literature: Robert Louis Stevenson, Sir Walter Scott, J.M. Barrie, Arthur Conan Doyle, Dorothy Dunnett, Ian Rankin, Ali Smith, Muriel Sparks, George MacDonald, Samuel Johnson, Kenneth Grahame, Louise Welsh, Josephine Tey and J.K. Rowling, and the iconic Robbie Burns!
Come and steep yourself in Scottish literature and landscape. We’re looking forward to another incredible experience where the travel informs the writing and the writing deepens the experience of the travel.
Participants who wish to fly with the group will leave Toronto on Friday evening, July 14th, arriving in Glasgow early on Saturday, July 15th. (Participants are also welcome to make their own travel arrangements and meet us in Glasgow.)
Optional activities will include visiting sites of significant literary, geological and historical significance as per our itinerary.
After two nights in Glasgow, the group will head north into the Western Highlands (with an optional visit to the Isle of Skye) with two nights in Fort Augustus, on the shores of Loch Ness, and two nights in Dunkeld on the periphery of The Hermitage.
Our last two nights will be in Edinburgh where we will experience the rich literary and historical traditions of that venerated city.
Our experience together ends on Sunday, July 23rd.
Each day will begin with (optional) yoga at 7:00, breakfast at 8:30, followed by a 2 1/2 hour writing workshop.
There will be optional local activities that individuals can participate in as they wish. (Three of the days will include travel to our next destination in the afternoon. This, of course, is not optional.) This is your retreat, so each participant is at complete liberty to follow their own inclination or energy level when it comes to planned events.
Yoga classes will be offered by yoga teacher and poet extraordinaire, Kate Marshall Flaherty. The writing sessions will be led by Sue Reynolds, with support by Kate and James Dewar, all of whom are AWA-certified facilitators.
EARLY BIRD PRICING IS AVAILABLE UNTIL MARCH 31ST!
