ONLY TWO WEEKS AWAY – Write @ The ROM – July 5th, 2015
A Writing Workshop at One of Toronto’s Most Evocative Locations
The Royal Ontario Museum is a gorgeous storehouse of anthropological, geological, and paleontological information and artifacts.
On July 5th you are invited to spend a day experiencing the treasures of the ROM through prompts that will evoke sensory, emotional and cognitive responses.
Writers will be given new prompts approximately every hour in different locations throughout the building. They are designed to encourage writers to engage with the bones of fresh material from the perspective of their own personal narratives.
Participants are free to write in any format they choose: poetry, nonfiction, memoir or fiction.
At the end of the day, we will lead participants to a local restaurant (a short walk from the ROM) to relax, share insights and get to know each other a little better. All writers are encouraged to read one of the pieces written that day, but sharing is always optional.

Testimonials from writers who attended the last Inkslingers’ ROM event
“You can’t go wrong with Inkslingers writing workshops. Expect an organized, imaginative and productive workshop with caring instructors and lots of time to write. Writing prompts are inspiring and will lead you to places in your writing you’ll be glad to go to.”
“I would highly recommend this for someone who was looking for energizing their writing.”
“My process flourished under the optional prompts, the optional views.”
“Each prompt was unique and provocative … I used several, and saved some for another visit. I appreciate a lot of prompt possibilities.”
“I really thought the organization of the day was professional, thoughtful, and conducive to writing. I liked the breaks where we came together in other locations. I sometimes wanted to keep writing, but who doesn’t??!! Enjoyed the happy hour reading and would have liked to have stayed for more of it.”
“Exciting to have the prompts and to spin off into other directions in that hugely stimulating environment.”
“I really appreciated the organization and professionalism of the instructors. The planning was evident and seamless. Loved the snacks so thoughtfully offered at the right time of the morning. The poetry given out was brilliant. I often, when writing in a location away, long to read a poem, but don’t have one nearby. Taking the time to read and rest a little was a great idea. Very thoughtful and creative. Instructors created a trusting and comfortable atmosphere for writers warmed with humour and imagination.”
“Great program design. Well thought out. Nurtured creativity which I really value. I think the harmony of the group apparent later at the Duke spoke well of the program.”
“I was looking forward to doing this, had never done anything like this before and it did not disappoint. It was an easy enjoyable day and I got some writing in, plus had a change to explore.”
