Inkslingers is Exploring Tuscany in October 2022

Once again we’ve designed a trip that balances the delight and excitement of being in Europe with the reflective practices of writing and yoga.

Why did we pick Florence this time? Known as Firenze in Italy, it is the capital of the province of Firenze in the region of Tuscany. The city, located about 230 km northwest of Rome, is surrounded by gently rolling hills covered with villas and farms, vineyards, and orchards. We have visited this beautiful city several times in the past. We love the wide streets, Renaissance vibe, fabulous retaurants, outstanding shopping and world class museums so much that we’ve booked the GRAND HOTEL MEDITERRANEO to stay in for the entire week. Except for the two days that we travel to other areas of Tuscany in our own chartered bus, we will be a short walk to all of the major attractions.

Florence has been significant to Italy since the first century BC, but it achieved its notorious preeminence in commerce and finance, learning, and especially the arts, during the 14th–16th century. The city is rightly known as the birthplace of the Renaissance.

Few cities are so compact in size or so packed with extraordinary art and masterpieces of architecture. The urban fabric of this small city, on the banks of the Arno river, has hardly changed since the Renaissance and its cobbled streets are a cinematic feast of elegant 15th & 16th century palazzi, medieval candle-lit chapels, fresco-decorated churches, marble basilicas and world-class art museums brimming with paintings and sculptures by Botticcelli, Michelangelo et al. In fact, the whole city centre is a Unesco World Heritage Site.

But we won’t just be visiting Florence. We’ll have day trips to Sienna, Lucca, the extraordinary San Gimignano, and Pisa. Check out our ITINERARY for full, day-by-day details.

Each day will begin at 8:00 with optional yoga led by the luminous Kate Marshall Flaherty.

Breakfast (included) will be at 9 for those who come to yoga – if you decide to stay in bed a little longer, breakfast will be available when you’re ready.

The writing workshop begins at 10:00 each morning. As with other years, we’ll be gently studying the literature of the area – particularly literature inspired by the rich history of the city of Florence – to enrich our understanding of the significance of what we encounter here.

In the afternoon, we’ll head off for our daily destination. We’ve designed a mixture of adventures in the city of Florence itself, as well as day trips to the extraordinarily beautiful countryside and nearby smaller historical cities.

This will be the fifth European Inkslingers trip. We’re extremely proud that there are some participants who have come on every trip we’ve ever planned. We think that indicates good things about their experience with us! To see for yourself, please visit our TESTIMONIALS PAGE.

We’ve worked hard to provide terrific value for your hard earned writers’ dollars. This year we’re really pleased that we’re able to offer more single rooms than we are usually able to. Look for more information on our PRICING FOR INKSLINGERS in TUSCANY PAGE.

Due to the uncertainty created by the Coronavirus Pandemic, we have updated our CANCELLATION AND SUBSTITUTION POLICIES.
