Writing Workshops, Retreats, Mentoring

Barrie – Autumn 2018

I’m delighted to be teaming up with gifted AWA leader, Clare Bolton, to do two workshops in Barrie this fall.

Back to the Page – to jumpstart your writing

The first workshop in Barrie this fall is a single night of “Back to the Page” — an introduction to the experience of writing in the AWA method. This 2.5 hour evening workshop is for anyone who loves to write but has been away from his or her writing for a while. It’s for people who have a story to tell but are anxious about whether they can write well enough to do their story justice.

Basically this one night workshop is for anyone who wants to write and is looking for support for and development of their writing.

Come with a blank notebook and a pen – leave with some pieces well under way, ideas for many more and increased confidence in your ability to tell your stories in vivid and compelling prose.

Date: Tuesday Oct 2, 2018 – AWA experience –
Time: 7 to 9:30 pm
Cost: $40.00 + HST
Place: Barrie Native Friendship Centre
175 Bayfield Street ( corner of Bayfield St and Wellington St. E )
Barrie, ON L4M 3B4

Following about a month later Clare and I will be offering a six week workshop:

Turning Life into Story – and into publication”

This course helps participants find the germs of story in personal experience (their own or those of their family and friends) and shows writers how to transform them into short pieces.

Through the study of existing short stories and experimenting with various writer’s craft techniques, authors will experiment with their own material.

Homework can be submitted privately for individual feedback each week.

By the end of the course writers will produce one or two polished stories and, if they choose, “put a stamp on it” – i.e., identify a contest or journal they think is an ideal market for their story and send the piece.

To Register, please fill out the form at the bottom of this page.
